With last month’s resignation of former Palmer City Council member Victoria Hudson, who tendered her resignation at the end of the January 13 council meeting, citing difficulties in working with other council members and city staff, there is now a vacancy for a resident looking to serve.
Applications are available on the city’s website and are open through Feb. 9 at 4:00 p.m. The seat will selected by the mayor to serve until a candidate is elected during the October 6, 2026, regular election.
According to the City of Palmer website, the city is seeking applications from engaged citizens to serve on a dynamic decision-making team governing your community.
Residents interested must be a registered voter in the state of Alaska, and must have resided within the City of Palmer city limits for at least one year preceding the date of filing for office.
Duties will include attending the council’s bi-monthly meetings, and periodically other special meetings as scheduled, participate in intergovernmental relations, and setting city policies.
The council vacancy follows a string of unplanned turnovers over the past year, firstly when former Council member Richard Best resigned in March, 2025. Council member Ken Erbey was selected to fill that seat.
In October, 2025, then–Council member Jim Cooper was elected mayor, opening up another spot, which has been filled by Council member Penny Mosher.
Applications may be downloaded at City of Palmer website, or by picking up a hard copy at Palmer City Hall. Please direct inquiries to the City Clerk’s Office at (907) 761-1301.
