PALMER — The process for hearings on its construction projects will be a focal point of tonight’s Palmer City Council at 7.
The issue was spurred by grumblings about the city’s building of a skateboard park, which is underway. The concerns involve potential nuisance issues, including noise.
City council member Michael Chmielewski said the council will clearly define the public process because the government has a responsibility to follow the laws it creates.
“Anything we can do to ensure [citizens] can talk about that issue before it goes too far down the road is an important thing,” Chmielewski said.
There is one citizen scheduled to appear and speak to the council regarding the skateboard park.
The council will also address a proposed ordinance to create guidelines for parking inside city limits.
These guidelines are designed to eliminate problems with cars and enable development as Palmer grows into a larger city, Chmielewski said. Parking for longer than 72 hours, parking that obstructs traffic and overnight parking situations will be discussed.
Included in other proposed ordinances are a questioned voter notice and the unification of 2006 international building codes and Palmer’s municipal code.
The meeting at Palmer’s City Council Chambers follows the conclusion of a special council meeting at 6 p.m. to review the council’s goals and objectives.
