Palmer earns big win on the road; Knights, Huskies and Warriors fall in Week 2

Palmer’s first two opponents of the 2024 season?

The two teams that played for the 2023 Division II title.

A week after traveling south and suffering a 63-27 to defending state champion Soldotna, the Moose went north and scored a big 35-28 victory over Lathrop, the 2023, DII runner-up Saturday in Fairbanks.

Quarterback Nolan Garner threw three touchdown passes and all-around threat Reed Craner accounted for three total touchdowns in the win. Garner connected with Craner on scoring plays of 50 and 13 yards. Craner also rushed for an 18-yard touchdown.

Palmer (1-1) will host its home opener Aug. 30 against Colony (0-2).

Dimond used three first-half touchdowns to get past Colony 28-14 Friday in Anchorage.

Ridge Spencer led Colony with 12 catches for 120 yards in the loss. Quarterback Thomas Vito threw for 255 yards. Kodiak Fieser added 59 yards rushing.

Homer earned a 32-8 win over Redington Friday night at Redington.

Jake Murdock finished with 70 yards on 18 carries, and rushed for Redington’s lone score. Quarterback Christian Ingraham was 16 of 26 for 126 yards passing.

Redington (1-1) hosts Kodiak (0-2) Aug. 30 at 6 p.m.

In Division II action, North Pole beat Wasilla 43-20 at WHS. The Warriors (0-2) play at Barrow (1-1) Aug. 31 at noon.
