HOMER — The Alaska State Elks Association’s 63rd annual convention was held here last month. Among the 163 delegates and guests were Arthur Frost III (past Grand Exalted Ruler) and his wife Sharon, and Alaska State Sponsor Roger True (also a past Grand Exalted Ruler).
Also in attendance were Washington State Elks Association President Frank Cowell, President-Elect Joe Basil and other Washington State Elks Association officers.
Roland Reiswig of Palmer Lodge No. 1842 was installed as state president. Other officers installed were President-Elect Mark Daum, Sitka; Vice President Janet Johnson, Kodiak; Secretary Paul Whitney, Soldotna; Trustees Joel Hembach, Eagle River; Jon E. Shennett, Sitka; Konrad Jackson, Kenai; Chaplain Kathi Johns, Palmer; Historian Perry Streeter, Palmer; Sergeant at Arms Mike Southcott, Palmer; and Tiler Debbie Love, Anchorage.
The highlight of the convention was the Parade of Pigs, which was a barbecue cook-off between the Homer and Sitka lodges, which Homer won.
The Alaska State Elks Association’s next annual state convention is May 3-6, 2012, at Palmer Lodge No. 1842 on Finger Lake.
