PALMER — After battling through back-to-back scoreless ties against conference rivals Colony and Skyview, the Palmer Moose stood at halftime Saturday morning facing yet another scoreless tie.
In the second half, the Moose finally found the back of the net. Palmer scored four times during the final 40 minutes to net a 4-0 win over Homer at Palmer High School.
“We just needed one to finally get in,” Palmer head coach Harmony Chadwick said. “It was good to get that first one.”
Once the Moose broke through, Palmer was able to strike again. Before the final whistle sounded, Ellen Jorgensen, Kendall Howe, Sierra Myers and Kristan Van Hoomissen had all scored.
Chadwick said an adjustment the Moose made during halftime led to the bulk of the scoring. Elliot Perkins played a big role in the adjustments, assisting on the Jorgensen, Howe and Myers goals.
Chadwick also credited her team’s overall attitude.
“It was a great win, especially after that tie (Friday),” Chadwick said, referring to the match against Skyview. “The girls played really tense (against Skyview) and were trying to force it. Today was great. We talked about getting back into the game and having fun with soccer.”
