Palmer girls, Colony boys win region cross-country skiing titles

Valley athletes swept the major honors during the Region III Championships cross-country ski meet at the Tsalteshi Trails in Soldotna.

The Palmer Moose won the girls title and the Colony Knights finished first in the boys standings. Palmer’s Rosie Whittington-Evans earned the girls skimeister. Colony’s Jayden Rice was named the boys skimeister.

Whittington-Evans finished first in the girls individual standings with a two-day total time of 38 minutes, 23 seconds. Rice was first in the boys class with a two-day total of 41:52.

Katey Houser was second overall for Palmer in the girls class, 36 seconds behind Whittington-Evans. Anna Bell led the Colony girls with an eight-place finish.

Colony was fourth in the girls team standings.

Rice was one of four Knights in the boys top 10. Tobias Buchanan was third, Coby Marvin placed sixth and Layne Buchanan finished 10th.

Palmer finished fifth in the boys team standings.
