WASILLA — It doesn’t always matter how it went in. It only matters that it went in.

Helped by a few fortunate bounces, Palmer scored a second-half goal to grab a 1-0 win over the Wasilla girls at Wasilla High School Tuesday afternoon.

Following the win, an elated Harmony Chadwick wasn’t quite sure who netted the game-winner, but was excited to see her team secure a key Northern Lights Conference victory.

“It hit the back of the net. That’s all that matters,” Chadwick said with a smile.

Senior Miracle Burton set up the play with a corner kick from the right side. The ball took a bounce off freshman Meganne Townsend and another off senior Lily Cullers.

“It was good to see their intensity come out,” Chadwick said. “We needed that win.”

Palmer was also able to rebound from a tough 5-1 loss to Colony on Monday.

“We felt pretty good going into (the Colony game) and that outcome was a lot different than we thought. It wasn’t a horrible game, but score-wise, it was kind of a let down,” Chadwick said.

Palmer improved to 1-2-0 in NLC North play with the win.

“We knew going into it, this would help our placement at regions,” Chadwick said.

With the victory, Palmer will avoid the South Division’s top seed in the first round of the NLC Championships.

Wasilla head coach Patrick O’Neill said his young team is still learning lessons.

“We’re young, only three seniors,” O’Neill said. “We’re just having a real problem this year playing against teams that are physical.”
