Palmer girls finish third at Kenai Invitational

KENAI — Katie Stark won the 500-yard freestyle to lead the Palmer Moose to a third-place finish in the girls’ standings of the Kenai Invitational at Kenai Central High School on Saturday.

Stark clocked a time of 6 minutes and 11 seconds to find about eight seconds ahead of runner-up Kayla Anderson of Colony. Stark was also one of three Palmer swimmers to finish in the top six of the event. Willow Schlenker was third and Kalila Sawyer finished sixth.

Alex Traini posted a pair of top-3 finishes for Palmer. Traini was second in the 100 and third in the 200 individual medley. Noelle Graham also had two top-3 finishes for the Moose, finishing second in the 200 IM and third in the 100 butterfly.

Nikelle Dishea was fourth in the diving event for the Moose.

Anderson helped lead Colony to a fourth-place finish in the girls’ team standings. She also finished fourth in the 100 backstroke.

The Palmer Moose finished fourth in the boys’ team standings.

Eddie Showdown was second in the 200 freestyle and sixth in the 50. Spencer Bloom was third in the 100 backstroke and fifth in the 50 for the Moose.

Colony finished fourth in the boys’ standings. Zane Mileiur was second in the 200 IM and fourth in the 50 for the Knights. Levi McAuliff finished fourth in the 200 IM and 50.
