Palmer girls’ hockey team competes in first national tournament

PALMER — A Palmer Pioneers team made history over the weekend.

The girls’ Tier II U14 squad became the first team in the history of the Pioneer Amateur Hockey Association to appear in a national tournament. The Pioneers finished 0-3-0 in the USA Hockey National Championships in Troy, Michigan.

Bailey Brunnhoelzl led the Pioneers with three goals during the tourney. Brianna Paxson furnished a team-best two assists.

Rachel Symmes made two starts in goal. She stopped 28 shots during a 4-1 loss to the Shoreline Sharks and made another 28 saves during a 4-1 loss to the North Shore Vipers. Ashley Engan recorded 31 saves during a 7-1 loss to the MCYH Edge.

Shoreline captured the Tier II girls’ U14 title.
