FAIRBANKS — As the Palmer girls continued to roll, the boys figured out what it felt like to get rolled over by Monroe Catholic.
Senior Kalei DePriest posted 21 points and 12 rebounds to lead Palmer to a 53-31 win over the Monroe girls. Palmer, 2-0 in the tournament, jumped to a 13-4 first-quarter lead and held a 28-9 advantage at the half. Nine different players scored for the Moose. Senior Elliot Perkins added eight.
The defending 3A state champion Monroe Boys, who have used 4A teams as their own personal thumping posts this year, beat Palmer 75-32. Monroe, 4-0 overall, is now 3-0 against 4A competition. Two of those teams are currently ranked in the state’s top 5.
Monroe beat West 75-45 in December and Thunder Mountain 81-55 during the opening day of the tourney on Thursday.
Scooter Bynum scored 14 for Monroe. Adam Ramoth led the Moose with a dozen.
The Palmer boys and girls both played Thunder Mountain on Saturday. Due to the new Saturday press deadlines, results were unavailable.
