PALMER — The Palmer Moose are off to a great start to the 2019 girls’ soccer season.
The Moose improved to 2-0 with a 3-1 win over the Grace Christian Grizzlies Monday night at Machetanz Field in Palmer. Catherine Uschmann scored a pair of goals to lead Palmer. Cearsten Dosser also found the back of the net for the Moose. Victoria Banks earned the win in net.
The Division II rivals played through a scoreless first half. Palmer was able to build a 3-0 lead before Grace scored.
Hawks play to ties in Kodiak
After falling during the first of two days in Kodiak, the Houston boys and girls bounced back to grab ties on Saturday.
The Houston boys played to a 2-2 tie. The Houston girls tied Kodiak 1-1.
Friday, Kodiak blanked the Houston girls 1-0 and the boys 2-0.
Wasilla girls open with tough stretch
During Wasilla’s first three games of the girls soccer season, the Warriors played a pair of defending state champions and a team that reached the semifinals last year.
Wasilla came away 0-2-1.
After playing to a scoreless tie with South Anchorage in a rematch of the 2019 Division I state championship game, Wasilla suffered a 3-0 loss to Division II defending state champion Juneau. West Anchorage, a Division I state semifinals, edged the Warriors 2-1. Sierra Baird scored for the Warriors. Nicole Catlett assisted on the play.
