PALMER — Wasilla High School was all set to debut its new cross-country trail at the Bumpus Recreation Area, but heavy rains late last week washed away those plans. The Wasilla Trailblazer event was moved to Palmer High School, and the Moose girls took advantage of a race on their home trail.
Palmer placed four runners in the top 8, and finished first in the girls’ team standings. Junior Sophie Wright was first overall, with a time of 20 minutes, 19 seconds. Alia Berrigan (21:16) placed third, Sophia Nowers (22:22) was sixth and Tabea Shepler (22:45) finished eighth.
Abbi Boucher led Wasilla to a runner-up finish in the girls’ team standings. The senior clocked a time of 21:13. Freshman Riley Malone led third-place Colony with a ninth-place finish, and time of 22:51.
Landon Hayes led all Valley runners in the boys’ race, with a runner-up finish and time of 17:15. Hayes also helped the Warriors finish second in the boys’ team standings. Brennan Lackey (17:47) was sixth for Wasilla and Kolten Greathouse (17:57) placed eighth for the Warriors. Ryan Owens (17:32) led Palmer with a fifth-place finish. Samuel Stapley was 17th to lead Houston, and Jace Makamson finishyed 18th for Colony.
