Palmer Golf Course opens 12 holes

PALMER — Local golfers are getting a jump start on the new season at Palmer Golf Course.

The course, located off Outer Springer Loop in Palmer, opened 12 of its 18 holes for play Monday. Palmer Golf Course director of golf George Collum said he expects all 18 holes to be open for play Wednesday.

“It’s drying out pretty quick. There’s no snow left at all,” Collum said Monday afternoon.

Holes 1-7 and 14-18 were open Monday. Holes 8-13 should be open Wednesday, Collum said. Palmer Golf Course will most likely restrict the use of carts until the end of the month. Collum also said the course should be down to only two temporary greens by the weekend.

Overall, Collum said he’s happy to see the course open April 14.

“This is closer to an average opening for us,” Collum said. “The last three years have been really late.”

In 2011, PGC opened April 22. The course opened April 25 in 2012, and May 1 last year.

For now, the cost to play is $15 for 12 holes. The cost will rise to $20 when all 18 holes are open. The driving range will remain closed.

Collum said PGC is advising players to call 745-4653 prior to their visit to get current updates and prices.
