Palmer hands Kodiak its first conference loss of year

KODIAK — The Palmer Moose handed Kodiak its first Southcentral Conference loss of the season with a 7-6 win over the Bears in Kodiak on Friday.

Senior Tim Rockey pitched seven strong innings to earn the win. Rockey fanned five hitters and retired 11 straight Bears during one stretch in the game.

At the plate, Rockey finished 2 for 4 and scored the go-ahead run late.

Junior Augustus Topp finished 3 for 4 with three RBI. Senior Kevin Montgomery was 2 for 4 with two runs scored.

The win came after a marathon 20-19 victory over Homer in Homer on Thursday afternoon.

Montgomery homered and drove in three runs. Topp was 3 for 4 with a double and three RBI. Rockey, David Media and Collin Christiansen finished with two hits and three RBI each.

Wasilla 13, Soldotna 12

WASILLA — The Wasilla Warriors held on to score a 13-12 win over the Soldotna Stars Saturday in Wasilla.

Robert Rodamer, Ben Fielder, John Stormont and David Newman each collected a pair of hits in the win. Rodamer, Fielder, Newman and Brody Coleman each drove in two runs. Newman scored three times.

Colony sweeps Kenai

PALMER — The Colony Knights scored a pair of wins over Kenai in the Valley over the weekend. On Friday, Colony edged Kenai 4-3 and followed with an 8-2 win on Saturday.

Houston splits

HOUSTON — A night after falling to Soldotna 10-8, Houston scored a 9-6 win over the Homer Mariners at Kramer Field in Houston.
