Palmer High School was placed on a brief lockdown Tuesday morning as authorities responded to a burglary in progress in a nearby commercial building, according to Palmer Police.
Alaska State Troopers received a report of the burglary just after 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. AST and Palmer Police day shift officers responded to the scene.
“The complainant stated a window was broken and observed a male enter the building,” troopers said in an online dispatch published Tuesday afternoon.
Justin Beavers, 52, of Palmer, was located inside the building. Beavers was, “non-compliant, but ultimately taken into custody inside the building by PPD and AST,” Palmer Police said.
Beavers was arrested for second-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, first-degree criminal trespass, fourth-degree theft and violation of conditions of release.
Palmer Police said Palmer High was placed in a brief lockdown as a precaution, and there was no threat to the school or the public.
