PALMER — Teeana Nicholai is already known as one of the top sprinters in the Region III girls’ class. But the Palmer High School junior has also shown she can be a threat in the ring.
Nicholai used a personal best throw of 32 feet, 7 inches to win the girls’ shot put during the Palmer Invitational at Palmer High School.
Nicholai added a pair of top-5 finishes on the track. She also enjoyed a personal best time of 12.85 seconds and finished as the runner-up in the 100 meters. Nicholai was also fifth in the 400.
Palmer also had a win in the boys’ class. The Moose finished first in the 1,600-meter relay. PJ Cutwright, Larry Cutsforth, Amiqaq Maclean and Lev Robertson combined to post a time of 3:36.09. Cutsforth (400 meters) and Robertson (800) also ran to runner-up finishes in individual races. Matt Daniels was second for the Moose in the 110-meter hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles.
Jon Pomrenke (discus) and Andres Ramirez-Nunn (shot put) led the Colony boys with runner-up finishes. Presley Petersen was second for the Colony girls in the girls’ high jump. Lizzie Palmberg was second in the girls’ 300 hurdles for Wasilla Lake Chrisian.
