PALMER — The Palmer Little League suffered a big loss just as its season started.
The organization’s new riding lawn mower was recently stolen from the Sherrod Sports Complex, off North Gulkana Street in Palmer, Dave Combs, Palmer Little League president said this week. Combs said he believes the mower — an orange Husqvarna with attached bagger— may have been taken sometime May 14. The mower was at the facility during Palmer Little League’s opening day ceremony on Saturday, May 13, but not the following Monday.
“We went there Monday to drag the field and it was gone,” Combs said.
Combs said the mower — recently purchased by the Palmer Little League for $2,200 — was not locked up, but was put away out of plain sight.
“It was our mistake. It wasn’t locked up. But it was hidden behind the sheds. You’d have to know it was there,” Combs said. “Someone really had to go through some effort to get that.”
Combs said the organization recently purchased two mowers, and one is at another facility. A police report was filed, Combs said, but he is still not sure whether insurance will cover the theft of the piece of equipment.
Combs is asking for anyone with any information email him directly at david@combsinsurance.com.
