Mat-Su farmer and businessman Arthur Keyes has been appointed as state director of the federal Farm Service Agency in Alaska. U.S. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins announced Keyes’ appointment May 27.
The federal Farm Service Agency supports farms and farming communities with programs including disaster relief, conservation programs, commodity price guarantee programs, and loan programs.
Keyes and his family own and operate a farm in Palmer. He served as state agriculture director from, 2016 to 2019 and has two decades of experience in agriculture including development of an award-winning marketing program for Alaska-grown products.
In addition to farming Keyes developed farmers’ markets in Anchorage including the state’s highest-grossing market.
