PALMER — A Palmer man is dead after a plane crash in Prince William Sound on Tuesday.
William Resinger, 75, was a passenger and one of three occupants of the plane, according to an online dispatch posted by the Alaska State Troopers Wednesday. AST and Alaska Wildlife Troopers received a report just after 3 p.m. Tuesday that a plane had crashed into Cascade Bay within Prince William Sound. The United States Coast Guard responded.
According to troopers, Scott Johannes, 56, of Wasilla, was the pilot of the plane and had two passengers on board.
“Johannes was attempting to land in Cascade Bay, but ended up crashing into the water,” troopers said in the release.
Johannes and another passenger were able to escape, troopers said, but Resinger was trapped inside the overturned aircraft.
“Several good Samaritans were in the area and responded in boats. Resinger was extricated and CPR was initiate, but unsuccessful,” troopers said.
Johannes and the other passenger were flown to an Anchorage hospital. The National Transportation Safety Board was notified, and the investigation continues.
