PALMER — “Every day is a Saturday,” a ski movie featuring Dane Tudor, a Palmer man, is showing at the Bear Tooth Theatrepub in Anchorage on Saturday.

Tudor won 2009 Best Male Pro skier at the International Free Ski Film Festival earlier this year in Montreal.

Thankful for his success Tudor, credits his mother.

“My mom has helped me a lot. She got me into skiing and she has encouraged me along the way. Without her none of this would be possible,” Tudor said.

The 20-year-old Australian-born skier started at an early age.

“My mom put me on skis when I was only 2. I used to just walk around the house in those skis,” he said. “As soon as I was able, my mom put me out on the slopes.”

After moving from Australia to Palmer and then to Rossland British Columbia, Canada, Tudor started skiing at Red Mountain Resort in Rossland. Although he and his mother would eventually move back to Palmer, at a young age Tudor fell in love with skiing at Red Mountain Resort.

At 7, Tudor started competing in ski races in the Nancy Greene Ski League, a program in Canada to encourage youth skiing.

“I raced ‘til I was 17 or 18 and won the K2 Provincial Championship,” Tudor said. “I loved racing but my heart was in skiing powder so I switched over about two years ago.”

From then on he has been skiing just about constantly.

“I ski in (British Columbia) during the winter season and then down to New Zealand during the summer, as it is winter there,” Tudor said. “I have not been home in over two years.”

He acknowledges it is a busy life for a 20-year-old.

“I am going to the movie opening, then to France for sponsor meetings, and then off to Colorado. I will start skiing again around the 15th of November,” Tudor said.

He is sponsored by Salomon ski equipment, Scott, Red Resort, and Discrete Headwear.

Although he is at home currently, he still trains for the season.

“I do a lot of swimming and trampolining for cardio and some strength training,” Tudor said. “It is nice to be home, though. I can relax and unwind here.”

“Every day is a Saturday,” is produced by Poor Boyz Production and focuses on the work it takes to get “from point A to point B, Poor Boyz aims to provide a chronicle of each process, from the mental standpoint to the prearranged state of bliss,” the production company’s website says.

Admission to the film at the Bear Tooth Theatrepub on Saturday is $3.
