WASILLA — A Palmer man with more than 22 grams of methamphetamine was found passed out in his vehicle near Wasilla late Thursday afternoon.
Alaska State Troopers responded to Foothills Boulevard at Knik-Goose Bay Road just before 5 p.m. Thursday, according to an online dispatch reporter, for a welfare check on a man reportedly, “passed out in the driver seat of a red Chevrolet Blazer.” While observing the man, indentified as Gregory Knapp, of Palmer, troopers noticed a significant amount of methamphetamine in plain sight. After the 33-year-old was moved into an unmarked patrol car, troopers say Knapp try to flee the scene. Knapp was again detained, but fought with a trooper, according to the release, as he tried to resist.
A trooper on scene received minor injuries during the altercation and was treated at a local hospital. Knapp was arrested and jailed at Mat-Su Pretrial.
Troopers seized the methamphetamine, and estimate a street value of more than $5,000, according to the release.
Knapp now faces charges of misconduct involving a controlled substance in the second degree, assault on an officer in the fourth degree, escape in the fourth degree and resisting arrest. Knapp also violated the conditions of his release from a past arrest.
The MICS charge is a felony. Knapp was arraigned Friday morning at the Palmer Courthouse, and remains in custody.
