MAT-SU — Palmer used an all-around strong performance to notch its first win of the season Tuesday, 4-0 over Houston.
“We got good contribution from everybody,” Moose head coach Eric Troisi said. “Four different goal-scorers, so I thought it was a good team effort.”
Those goals came from Nathaniel Savel, who tallied what would prove the game-winner in the first period; Darren Fish and Chris Dojka in the second period; and Luke Wright iced the game with a goal in the third period.
Goaltender Austin McCain also stepped up, stopping all 20 shots on net, Troisi said.
“I thought our goaltender played well,” he said. “I think our defense was really solid and we moved the puck well.”
For the Hawks, the loss was a lesson that you have to play hard every game, said Houston head coach Mike Styers.
“We didn’t play very well, but I thought Palmer played pretty well,” he said.
Styers said he thought his team was still riding the wave of having played Wasilla in a tight game and let up a little against the Moose.
“We just didn’t come out ready to play very hard,” he said. “Partway through the second and into the third, we picked it up. On the other hand, I think Palmer played real well.”
Wasilla-Palmer cancelled
Wasilla was scheduled to host a dual with Valley rival Palmer Thursday, but the dual was cancelled along with all classes and other Mat-Su Borough School District activities due to weather. A dececsion on whether to hold classes Friday had not been made as of deadline.
