Palmer opens baseball season with tie

PALMER — The Palmer Moose rallied, and then the darkness set in.

The Moose opened their season with an 8-8 tie against Grace Christian School Monday night at the Palmer Senior Field.

Palmer’s Aaron Christiansen used a two-run single in the bottom of the seventh inning, to force the tie just before umpires called the game after three hours and 15 minutes of play, due to darkness.

Christiansen’s hit was part of a back-and-forth game against a Grace squad playing for the first time in school history. In the bottom of the fifth, Cody Grogan smacked a two-run homer to give Palmer a 6-3 advantage, but Grace managed to take the lead with five runs in the top of the sixth.

Grogan and Luke Guggenmos led Palmer with two hits each in the tie. Guggenmos and Keagan Norman each scored twice. Grogan drove in a game-high four runs. Christiansen and James Nelson had two RBI each.

Jimmy McGovern and Ryan Pate led Grace with two hits each. McGovern and Steve Brown drove in two each. Tobin Karlberg and Daniel Sherk scored twice for the Grizzlies.
