Due to the record-setting snowfall and resulting high and deep snowberms on the Lucas-Kiwanis Park side of the Palmer Moose Lodge parking area, hosting the longtime annual Easter Egg Hunt was in jeopardy.
A call to Tom Cohenour, Palmer Public Works director, the week prior to Easter was all that was needed for the city to spring into action. Cohenour’s capable staff completely removed the hazardous snow barriers that would have prevented younger children from safely accessing the park and the egg hunt.
In the end, city staff efficiently performed more work than was initially expected to ensure participants’ safety. None of the children knew this happened, nor probably many of the parents/adults either. They simply enjoyed a safe, wonderful event in the sun on Easter.
An outstanding good turn justifies recognition. It has been stated in the past that Palmer is Alaska’s best-kept secret. Let us all realize that there is no secret to the Public Works Department’s spirit and service. It is just an integral part of the community. Palmer pride!
