Palmer senior commits to Oregon community college to play volleyball

Maegan Grogan was a three-year starter for the Palmer High School volleyball team, but it was not until her junior year that she found her home on the court. Now. Grogan has found her home for potentially the next two years.

The Palmer libero has signed her National Letter of Intent to attend Southwestern Oregon Community College to play for the Lakers.

“I think she will really like it,” Palmer head coach Jayme DeHart said. “I think she will like Oregon a lot.”

DeHart said Grogan is a versatile player but really found her role as a junior.

“She started for me for three years, but her sophomore year she never played in the back row,” DeHart said. “She’s good in any position she can handle. She’s a natural libero in both her personality and her skills.”

DeHart said Grogan has the attitude, poise and demeanor to excel at the position.

“She doesn’t get rattled,” DeHart said. “She’s really level headed and makes really complicated plays look easy.”

As a libero, Grogan is on the back row, but is at the front line in terms of defense.

“They’re the most important touch. If you can’t pass the ball, you can’t play the game,” DeHart said. “Her demeanor in her role was huge. The first contact is the libero.”

DeHart said she Southwestern Oregon is a good fit for Grogan and she believes the Palmer standout will have success with the Lakes.

“She is really good. She has no idea how good she is. I think when she goes to college they’re going to recognize that,” DeHart said.

Grogan was named all-conference as a senior. She also helped the fourth-seeded Moose win the 2019 Northern Lights Conference title
