Palmer senior posts pair of top-15 finishes

ANCHORAGE — Palmer senior Duney Strickland posted a pair of top-15 finishes during the Lynx Loppet at Kincaid Park in Anchorage over the weekend.

Strickland finished 15th in both the 5-Kilometer classic on Friday and 7.5-K pursuit on Saturday to lead the Moose to sixth- and seventh-place finishes in the team standings.

Strickland was the top Mat-Su Valley skier to cross the finish line in both races. He posted a time of 35 minutes and 7.1 seconds in the pursuit, and finished at 15:30 in the classic race.

Sophomore Schyler Knopp finished 25th in the pursuit and 27th in the classic to lead Colony.

Palmer’s Davis Dunlap was 32nd in the pursuit and 49th in the classic.

Wasilla sophomore Conner Mattson led the Warriors with a time of 19:42.4 in the classic on Friday.

In girls’ action, Palmer senior Kimberly DelFrate posted a pair of top-20 finishes.

DelFrate finished 18th with a time of 18:37.8 in the girls’ 5-K classic on Friday. In the 5-K pursuit, DelFrate was 16th with a time of 35:40.1

Senior Amanda DelFrate finished 22nd in the pursuit and 25th in the classic for the Moose.

Senior Caitlin Skvorc led Colony with 44th-place finishes in both races.

Katherine Parker posted a team-best time of 44:02.3 to lead Wasilla.
