During the final tune-up of the Alaska prep cross-country running regular season, Palmer senior standout Fischer Adams earned his second straight win with the best time of his career.
Adams used a personal best mark of 15 minutes, 48 seconds to win the varsity boys race during the Mustang Smokin Stampede Saturday at Chugiak High School. Last week, Adams finished first in the Frank Dieckgraeff Invitational in Seward. Adams also has two runner-up finishes and a third place finish this season.
Seward is hosting the Region III Championships Sept. 30. The state meet is the following weekend at Bartlett in Anchorage.
Adams was one of two Palmer runners and three Valley athletes to finish in the top 10 of the boys race. Colony senior Tobias Buchanan was fourth with a time of 16:27. Palmer senior Tobin Miller was sixth at 16:35. Freshman Blaze Rubeo led Wasilla, finishing ninth with a time of 17:11.
Colony placed a pair of runners in the top four of the varsity girls race. Sophomore Morgan Ainsworth was third at 19:21. She finished just ahead of junior Ella Hopkins, who was fourth at 19:23. Wasilla freshman Hailee Giacobbe also had a top 10 finish, placing seventh at 19:41.
