Palmer senior wins four individual region track events; Wasilla boys earn team title

Palmer High senior standout Katey Houser entered the region meet with four events on her schedule and walked away with four gold medals.

Houser finished first in the girls 200, 400, 1600 and 3200-meter races during the Region III Championships at Kenai Central High School.

Houser notched personal records in two events, with a time of 26.91 in the 200 and 5:18.28 in the 1,600. She also posted a winning mark of 59.53 in the 400 and 11:44.05 in the 3,200.

Houser’s teammate, Sarah Uschmann, also finished first in the girls shot put for the Moose.

The Wasilla Warriors earned the Region III boys team title with 115 total points.

Dylan Jeffus led the Warriors with three wins, finishing first in the high jump, long jump and triple jump. Timothy Grisso swept the sprints, winning both the 100 and 200. Deshawn Campbell was first in both hurdles events for the Warriors.

Colony was the runner up in the girls team standings. Caroline Mitchell (100), Ella Hopkins (800) and Viviana Boney (300 hurdles) win events, and the Knights finished first in the 400 and 800-meter relays.

Matthew Rongitsch won the 1,600 and 3,200 to lead the Colony boys.

Layla Hays (discus) and Kichelle Frizzelle (long jump) each finished first for the Wasilla girls.

In the Region III-3A meet Cort Sandefur (boys shot put) and Mya Campbell (girls long jump) earned titles for Redington. Emily Bitler led Houston with a win in the girls discus.
