Palmer skier sweeps titles at Mat-Su Borough Championships

PALMER — Palmer’s John Snelders swept the individual races to help the Moose finish on top of the boys team standings during the Mat-Su Borough Cross-Country Ski Championships at Government Peak in Hatcher Pass over the weekend.

Snelders posted a time of 11 minutes and 51 seconds to win the boys’ 5-kilometer freestyle race and 12:36 to win the 5-K classic race. Colony’s Lyon Kopsack was the runner-up in both events.

Palmer edged runner-up Colony by about a minute in the team standings.

About a minute also separated Colony and Palmer in the girls team standings. Greta Jenkins won the girls’ 5-K classic to help the Knights finish first in the team standings. Palmer’s Kiersten Johnson won the girls’ 5-K freestyle.
