ANCHORAGE — A pair of Palmer athletes competed in the final round of the ASAA/First National Bank State Swimming and Diving Championships at Bartlett High School in Anchorage on Saturday.
Palmer senior Spencer Bloom qualified for the finals in a pair of events. Bloom finished sixth in the 100-yard backstroke during Saturday’s finals, clocking a time of 56.91 seconds. Bloom was also eighth in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23.08.
Bloom crushed a 15-year-old school record during the preliminary round Friday. He set a new Moose record with a time of 56.51 in the 100 backstroke. The previous mark, set in 1996, was 56.65.
Palmer sophomore Noelle Graham also broke a school record in the preliminaries, posting a 1:01.62 in the 100 butterfly on Friday. On Saturday, she bettered her own record, finished with a 1:01.00 to finish seventh in the finals.
Palmer sophomore swimmer Katie Stark, Moose diver Joe Provo and Colony sophomore Alex Kessler also competed in the meet, but did not advance to the finals.
