PALMER - A taxidermist shot last month by a Palmer police officer after a standoff at his home was arraigned Tuesday in Palmer Superior Court.
Shawn McCrary, 42, told Superior Court Judge Eric Smith that he grossed about $40,000 so far this year, with a net of about $20,000. McCrary said he has three kids, ”not much“ equity in a house, a 15-year-old six-wheeler and a 1989 Lincoln, plus a ”few hundred dollars in different bank accounts.
Smith appointed a public defender for McCrary. A pretrial conference in his case is set for Dec. 2, with a tentative trial date set for Jan. 3.
Prosecutor James Fayette, with the Office of Special Prosecutions in Anchorage, addressed the court telephonically. Fayette filed an additional misdemeanor complaint against McCrary for contempt of court for violating conditions of release, he said. The violation this time was two phone calls to a witness in another case, he said.
”When did I get a motion on this, Your Honor?“ McCrary asked.
Fayette said he would file a written motion to include this with the other charges.
Before leaving the courtroom, McCrary told the judge that a lot of questions were going to be answered through court proceedings, ”like retaliation.“
Palmer police have not released any more information on the Sept. 21 shooting.
