Palmer teen killed

Palmer police reported in a press release Thursday morning that a 16-year-old boy had died from a single gunshot wound at a home on South Chugach Street.

Police officers were dispatched to the scene at approximately 7:10 p.m. Wednesday evening. The initial investigation by officers at the scene indicated that the firearm was being handled by another juvenile when it went off. The body of the boy was transported to the State of Alaska crime lab in Anchorage, the press release said.

"It appears that the shooting may have been an accident," Boatright said Thursday morning. Police officers interviewed the juvenile who was handling the gun on Wednesday night, according to Boatright.

As this paper went to press Thursday morning, Boatright said the police were not able to report any more details of the incident.
