WASILLA — A 24-year-old Palmer woman died early this morning on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway.
Denise Zehrung was driving westbound on the highway in a Pontiac Grand Am when she veered into oncoming traffic, said Megan Peters, public information officer for Alaska State Troopers. Zehrung’s vehicle collided with a Jeep driven by 50-year-old Wasilla resident Judy Deguia. Zehrung died of her injuries and Deguia was transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries.
Both drivers were wearing seat belts, Peters said. It is still undetermined whether drugs or alcohol were involved, but speed is believed to be a contributing factor to the accident.
