WASILLA — Emergency responders were called to a vehicle accident near Houston just before 4 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

The Houston Fire Department and the Mat-Su Borough Emergency Services responded to the two-car rear-end accident at the Parks Highway and Horizon Way at 3:50 p.m. One vehicle included two occupants who reported no injuries. Two of the three occupants in the second vehicle were transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center

All involved reported that they were wearing their seat belts, including a young child.

“There is probably nothing as important if you are involved in an accident as proper restraints. The fact the little girl involved was uninjured is testament to the seat she was in, given that the impact was enough to total both vehicles,” Houston Fire Chief Christian Hartley said in an email. “The driver is very smart to have had the right seat for her.”

Hartley said the Houston Fire Department strongly recommends that child safety restraint seats are used according to manufacturer guidelines. “

Some local businesses can help parents with their kid's car seat to check size, direction, design, and fit. Also remember to replace any car seat that was in a car accident, and check the seats expiration date yearly,” Hartley said.
