St. David's Episcopal Church is making sure nobody goes hungry Saturday -- and a result, that families have something to eat for the rest of the year.
The church is hosting a spaghetti cookoff tomorrow night, and for $3 and a couple cans of food, you can be a judge as to the best sauce.
"We're having the Great American Spaghetti Cookoff," said Patricia Ortiz of the church. "Not only do you get to have dinner, but you can decide who makes the best spaghetti."
Ortiz said she even has a gallon of Allen and Peterson's chef's sauce lined up for the contest.
The contest is part of a bigger effort by the church. At Christmas, the church held craft fairs and cooking demonstrations to help raise money for families in need. Through those efforts, food baskets have been able to be supplied to families since, as well as the purchase of a wood stove and piping for a family in need.
The church is hoping that through the spaghetti dinner, it can continue to help others.
"All of the funds and the cans of food will go to Easter baskets and buying canned hams for all of the families," Ortiz said. "We're hoping to be able to supply food through the break-up season and into spring."
The event starts at 5 p.m. at the church, which is located at Mile 2.2 Wasilla Fishhook Road. It runs until "people stop showing up," Ortiz said.
The cost is $3 and a couple cans of food for individuals, or $10 and cans of food for families of four or more.
