Alaska will honor those who perished in the attacks on the World Trade Center on Sept. 11, 2001, by working with the World Memorial, a nonprofit charity, to display a 30-foot by 58-foot commemorative flag at fire stations in Alaska over the Christmas holiday.
The flag began its journey Sept. 10 in San Diego, Calif., and will fly in all 50 states before it flies over Manhattan, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Penn. on the 10th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and United Airlines Flight 93.
The flag’s Alaska tour begins Dec. 21 in Anchorage.
On Dec. 22, it will fly in Kotzebue, in Ketchikan Dec. 23, Juneau Dec. 24 and the Fairbanks Fire Department on Dec. It will also fly on Christmas Day at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Fire Department and Santa’s House, and the North Pole Fire Department. From there, Alaska Airlines will transport the flag to Oregon, where it will fly over the Hillsboro Fire Department on Dec. 27.
