Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Pearl Young O'Carter, 94, passed away Friday, May 16, 2003, at her home in Oroville, Calif. She was born Nov. 27, 1908, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.
She married James Hale Young in 1927; their life together took them to many places. She lived in Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, the Dakotas, Utah and Minnesota, finally settling in Palmer in 1946. Her adventuresome spirit made her the perfect early Alaskan pioneer. After James' death in 1956, she remained in Alaska and later married lifelong Alaskan Stan O'Carter in 1967.
She was a 50-year member of the Moose Lodge. She was also a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her kind-hearted and generous nature made her a friend to everyone.
She is survived by her two sons, Don Young of Oroville and Jimmy Dean Young (Donna) of Garden City, Utah; six grandchildren, Sandra, Mickie, Doug, Craig, Diana and Scott; 14 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Keith Martin of Utah. Her husbands, James Hale Young and Stan O'Carter, preceded her in death.
Scheer Memorial Chapel of Oroville, Calif., handled the arrangements. A visitation was held Thursday from 5-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held today, Friday, May 23, at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Ogden, Utah.
