Chamber hurries to beat Grotto-Lunkers to grounds

As the Grotto-Lunkers begin to stir out of hibernation in their glacier caverns high in the mountains, Midsummer Festival planners are working overtime to make their first annual celebration coincide with the arrival in the Valley of the mythical monsters.

The Greater Palmer Chamber of Commerce is making arrangements for the event, which will be held on the Alaska State Fairgrounds.

New legislation restores REA loans

Local electric and telephone cooperative officials this week joined REA cooperatives throughout the nation in jubilation over the passage of Senate Bill 394, which establishes an insured loan program for rural electric and telephone borrowers of REA.

S. 394 returns the electrical and telephone loan program to the auspices of the Rural Electrification Administration, and specifies that Congress and not the Office of Management and Budget will set the program loan levels.

College ceremonies set

The Matanuska-Susitna Community College will hold graduation exercises in its first permanent facility on Friday, May 25, 1973, college director Alvin Okeson has announced.

The Ford Courier boasted some "luxurious" amenities in its ad: "whitewall tires … bright front bumper … bright grille … bright hub caps … dual sun visors … dual armrests … is there a better buy?" asked the ad.

In the classified section, you could have bought a 34-acre parcel on the Springer system along the Glenn Highway for $72,000 through Riley Real Estate. General Realty was building Duplex Royale in Green Valley Subdivision. A two-bedroom unit cost $54,900.
