‘Hollywood, I'll take Palmer, ' says Roetman

Stardust is somewhat tarnished said Lavon Roetman, queen of the Matanuska Valley Fair, who returned from Hollywood last week. Actor Alan Ladd &#8220Isn't even as tall as I am,” said Roetman.

But other than her slight disappointment that &#8220movie actors and actresses don't even seem like real people,” she found California to her liking.

She saw four movies, attended two radio shows, had dinner at the Brown Derby, lived in the Ambassador Hotel, and met a number of stage and screen stars.

Local grocer plans

daily milk run

Tentative plans for doorstep delivery of milk, cream, dairy products and eggs were announced this week by Everett Yohn of the Valley Grocery. Mr. Yohn said the future development of the plan depended upon the need expressed by Palmer residents living within a half-mile of radius of the town's center.

Tax collector

not eager yet

Been wondering when the tax collector will be knocking on your door to get your share of the folded money that is needed to help finance the Palmer School District? Rest easy, friend - it's going to be a while yet.

At present, nobody knows for certain just who is going to collect that tax. The Palmer School District has a tax collector that they'd like to put to work, but it's going to take a legal opinion to find if he has a job first.

The question revolves around when the school district was incorporated. Lawyers are going to have to decide whether the district legally is entitled to any share

of the property tax.
