Is ‘geenhouse effect'

a hoax?

Over the last few years, we have been media-blitzed with the specter of global warming from the &#8220greenhouse effect.” With 3.3 billion tons of carbon compounds polluting the atmosphere every year and no place for it to go, we've been slowly creating a planetwide hot house, or so we're told.

Though experts can't seem to agree on whether we're going to fry or freeze, there is one thing they all have consensus on - greenhouse warming or no, something has to be done to halt accelerating air pollution, he root of the problem.

Breeding sled dogs good business

Dog mushing is a big business in the Valley. Local mushers are now breeding fine bloodlines mostly for competition in long distance or sprint races.

Malamute, Siberian and wolf breeds have been used to develop the famous Alaska husky.

Knik musher Joe Redington Sr. said he has several points he looks at when selecting leaders.

&#8220When there's pups that can become potential good leader, you can tell at an early age” he said.

A well-bred leader is usually good between the ages of 3 to 10 years, he said. After 10, they start slowing down.

Outhouse classic

gains popularity

Where else but in Anchorage do people run with their outhouses instead of to the outhouse? Yet each year this Rondy event seems to gain popularity.

Annual entries by the Alaska Neonatal Associates have become favorites, especially the 1988 entry - the year the Killer Bees showed up to pull &#8220B Team” honey pot.

That kind of creativity is awarded with prizes.
