Recent missile firing

described by observer

Cy Brewer, member of the Military Advisory Committee, spoke before the meeting of the Matanuska Valley Chamber of Commerce, and told of the recent firing of a Hercules missile he witnessed at Eielson Air Force Base.

&#8220The speed of the missile, from its launch time until it was on target, was fantastic, said Brewer.

A personal time check, he said, indicated it was over and done within 17 seconds - with the missile having traveled some 35 miles.

Governor seeks

movie premier

Gov. William Egan has urged producers of the motion picture &#8220Ice Palace” to stage the film's worlds premier in Alaska.

&#8220Such a decision, I feel, would give the recognition both to Alaska as the locale of the story and to the timely contribution which Edna Ferber's novel made to the statehood cause,” he said in a letter to Jack Warner, head of Warner Brothers.

Legislative bills

being sent here

Betty Mears announced this week that she is receiving copies of the bills being presented by the Legislature in Juneau, and that interested parties are welcome to stop by her shop to read them or borrow them.

The bills, and journals, are being furnished by Sen. Irene Ryan (D-Anchorage).

Some of the bills are such a length that they can't be perused in a matter of seconds.

HB 252 is contained in 90 pages.
