Local chamber backs

proposed ferry

The Matanuska Valley Chamber of Commerce voted to approved a proposed state plan to run a ferry from Prince Rupert, B.C. to Haines. Bill Boardman, manager of the Ketchikan Chamber of Commerce, recorded the discussion in Juneau and chamber members heard the discussion of the benefit of a ferry to all of Alaska.

The membership voted to approve a resolution of going on record of supporting at the proposed &#8220Highway on the Water” and that the Alaska Chamber of Commerce and public-at-large be so

notified.

Cattle owners warned

Owners of cattle are warned that under the State Department of Agriculture rules, all female dairy cattle over 6 months of age must be tested for Brucellosis within 30 days prior to sale.

This regulation was invoked in 1954 to help in the eradication of Bangs disease which has cost dairymen many thousands of dollars.

Army maneuver

to cause heavy traffic

Hundreds of Army vehicles will intermittently be on the Glenn Highway in between Feb. 1 through Feb. 22, between Fort Richardson and Palmer, the Wasilla highway to Wasilla, and the Willow road to Willow.

The vehicles will be hauling supplies and equipment to the Willow area in connection with the Army exercise, &#8220Caribou Creek,” the largest Army maneuver to be held in Alaska in 1957.

It will pit the 1st Battle Group 23rd Infantry from Fort Richardson as aggressors against the 2nd Battle Group, 503rd Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division from Fort Bragg, N.C., as U.S. forces.
