MEA schedules new Willow power line

Matanuska Electric Association is scheduled to begin rights-of-way clearing next month for a new 22-mile electrical powerline that will run from the Teeland substation near Wasilla to Willow.

The powerline route is located on state, borough and private lands.

It crosses the Parks Highway three miles north of Houston before cutting through four miles of the southwest corner of land selected for where the new Willow capital site is.

Wasilla first grade moves next Monday

First graders will start school for the second time this year at Wasilla, when they open classes Sept. 26 at Wasilla Elementary School.

The school was kept closed for the first three weeks of school due to a mix-up over fire codes concerning the adjoining unoccupied structure.

The youngsters are to stay home from school tomorrow so their desks and supplies can be moved.

Falcons win 1977 homecoming game 14-12

The Palmer-Wasilla Falcons football team showed their poise last Saturday with a come-from-behind homecoming victory over the Chugiak Mustangs.

It was the first win of the season for the young team and it elevated them into a fifth-place tie with Bartlett in the Cook Inlet Conference standings.

At D&A Super, you could buy pork chops for $1.98 a pound and chuck roast for 98 cents a pound. Bananas were 39 cents a pound and you could buy seven large green bell peppers for a dollar.

A six-pack of Pepsi cost $1.49, and a box of Cheerios were $1.19.

In the classified section, you could buy a used 1976 Ford 3/4 ton 4x4 pickup for $5,950 or a "1976 Chevy Luv with stepsides" for $3,050.

Two-bedroom apartments were renting for between $300 and $400.

If you were looking to buy rather than rent, you could purchase a three-bedroom home in Cottonwood Shores subdivision for $61,500 or a large cabin with 100 feet of frontage on Scott Lake for $35,000.
