Frozen pizza maker

to build plant in Palmer

Quick-Way Foods, now of Anchorage, will become the first plant to operate in the proposed new section of Palmer's industrial park, if they follow up an option to buy granted them at Thursday's city council meeting.

The company now produces frozen food products, including "Original" brand pizza, in its Anchorage office.

In future plans, the company hopes to use local vegetables, and they are looking into the boil-in-bag food processing possibility.

School buses, fire trucks back on Old Knik Bridge

The load limits on the Old Knik River Bridge have been raised from the restrictive three- and four-ton maximum limit to a 10-ton limit, allowing school buses to use the bridge again.

The new loads were set after some recent repair on the bridge.

The main problem with the bridge is that it is wearing out.

It was first built in 1936 and was damaged in 1962, when a truck hit super structure members all the way across the bridge.

Football Falcons win

Led by junior halfback Alex Tubbs, the local team amassed 371 yards of offense while holding Dimond to nine yards on the ground.

For his efforts, Tubbs was voted the team's most outstanding player on offense. Howard Myers narrowly nosed out John Logsdon for the team's defensive award.

The Globe Construction Co. was offering three-bedroom homes in Palmer for $29,000.

Land was a bit cheaper than today -- 35 acres of commercial property at the Four Corners intersection was listed for $49,000. Eight acres in the Butte area was listed for $5,500.

If you still couldn't find a place to live, there was always the Palmer Arms apartments, which had vacancies for one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments.

With winter on its way, you could have bought a 1971 Skidoo snowmachine for $550, or a 1967 Rupp snowmachine for $350 through the classified ads section.
