Raceway construction to begin Monday

Jim Jones, Anchorage businessman and owner of the Alaska Speedway, has been engaged as project manager of the new Palmer Raceway, and Tex Noey, Anchorage sportsman, has been named promotional manager.

Engineering, design and soils investigation will begin Monday for the first portion of the project, a 3,650-feet drag strip. The raceway will include a two-mile racing course for sports cars, a half-mile horse race track, facilities for stock car racing and a track for go-cart racing.

Co-op application appears competitive

The determining factor in REA's decision as to location of a power-generating plant to serve Southcentral Alaska will no doubt be area economy, Mason LaZelle, MEA's manager, said this week.

The MEA application for REA funds to build the Sutton Electrical Center will be highly competitive with CEA's application for an addition to the Knik Arm Plant, according to LaZelle.
