Mayor enters hospital
"I feel excellent!" declared borough Mayor Ernie Brannon from his Anchorage hospital room Monday. Janet Oates, Providence Hospital spokeswoman, confirmed that Brannon was in satisfactory condition and recovering from a pulmonary embolism.
Brannon explained that a blood clot in his leg had taken off to his lungs, according to a lung scan ordered by his doctors.
Pair offers varied insights
Once upon a time, Wade Greyfox had a regular job, wore a three-piece suit, and knew exactly how much money he would be making.
But that was in a different life.
Today, with graying shoulder-length hair, blue jeans, moon boots, and a large quartz crystal dangling form his neck, the 44-year-old Willow man looks as far removed from the bureaucratic life as he does from many others he believes he led hundreds and even thousands of years earlier.
Since quitting his job with the state of Pennsylvania, Greyfox has spent two years ("in this lifetime") exploring the 20,000-year-old discipline of shamanism.
Data needed to count youth problems
From runaways to alcoholics, teen pregnancy to domestic violence the problems abound. And local agencies are struggling to provide efficient, positive help for families and individuals facing these issues.
"I want to know what I'm suppose to do with the kids I'll find at 11 o'clock tonight?" asked Officer Guy Harrison, with the Palmer Police Department, of a group of more than 75 people who participated in the "Children in Crisis" workshop focusing on runaways and homeless youth.
