Assembly sets Knik trail snogo ban over

A public hearing on the proposed prohibition of snowmobiles from Knik area dog trails won't be held now until at least Feb. 19, since the Mat-Su Borough Assembly failed to introduce the measure Tuesday.

Motor mushers, dog mushers and Knik property owners are to meet Feb. 4 with the borough trails committee to consider the proposed network of trails to be affected. As outlined now, the trails total about 50 linear miles, including the Iditarod Trail, Three Mile Lake Trail and a number of the seismic trails in the area.

Redington, Aldrich ahead in race

In the 300-mile warmup sled dog race being run out Talkeetna through Knik and back, Joe Redington Sr. and Ron Aldrich were reported ahead of the pack as the two went through the Knik checkpoint.
