Matanuska-Susitna is borough name

Borough assembly members unanimously voted last Thursday to name the District 7 unit of local government the "Matanuska-Susitna Borough."

This is the name which appeared on the local option petition presented to the local affairs agency last spring, and which has generally been associated with the local borough, assemblymen pointed out.

The choice of a borough seat, however, ended in a deadlock.

n original motion by William Herman to name Palmer as the borough seat was amended by Louise Kellogg to read that the borough seat be placed in Palmer for the first five years, after which the people of the borough would decide by referendum where the permanent seat would be located.

Mrs. Liebing injured

Mrs. Erma Liebing, secretary to William Sweetman, slipped on a patch of ice this morning when she left her home for the office, and fractured her right leg. She is being treated at Valley Presbyterian Church.

At the B&B Super Market, hams were 39 cents a pound, butter was 72 cents a pound and four pounds of bananas were 89 cents. You could get six grapefruits for a dollar, or 44 pounds of apples for $8.49.

Palmer Community College of the University of Alaska offered "elementary typing, "intermediate typing" and "driver's education." Tuition was $15 per credit, or a flat rate of $75 for more than seven credits.

The Evan Jones Coal Company's ad trumpeted, "Order Your Coal NOW!"

Their coal was "quality controlled, guaranteed analysis and washed and dried," according to their advertisement.
