First Alaska ticket candidacy announced

The first filing of candidacy on the Alaska party ticket has been made in the Third Division. Ben Hitchcock of Caribou Creek made the first public announcement today that his declaration of candidacy on the Alaska party has been on file.

The party incorporates the principles upon which he ran as an Independent, Hitchcock said.

Will Rogers Jr. to see the Valley

Sometime in March Will Rogers Jr. will be visiting the Matanuska Bank.

Frank Brink, director of the Anchorage Community College Workshop, announced during his visit to Palmer that Rogers will be coming to Anchorage in March.

"One of the first things Rogers said to me was, 'I want to visit the famous Matanuska Valley, my dad talked about it so much,'" Brink said.

Al Saxton buys local barber shop

Al Saxton, who recently graduated from the Folks Barber College in Seattle, this week bought the barber ship located in the Wright building from Harry Phillips and has opened for business.

At Koslosky's, you could purchase items to make Christmas dinner. A 10-pound bag of potatoes was 59 cents, five cans of green beans were a buck and six-ounce package of stuffing mix was 19 cents.

In the classified section, you could purchase a 1950 Cadillac for $750 -- and that included the radio -- or a 1953 Mercury Sport Coupe with radio, heater and overdrive, for $375.

A small 10-foot by 20-foot home in the Wasilla area was going for $3,000 -- or $2,000 cash.

A front-page ad for a Christmas party advertised that a "crisp $20 bill will be awarded as the door prize."
