Wasilla resident Penny Eva Doris Ann Karnofsky Waldron Holomon, 78, died Dec. 1, 2003, of complications from Alzheimer's disease, at Valley Hospital in Palmer while surrounded by her family.
Memorial services were held Wednesday at Sacred Heart Parish in Wasilla. Deacon Lou Hoffman officiated. Her ashes will be reunited with those of her husband, Jake Holomon, at Ft. Rose Crane National Cemetery in San Diego, Calif.
Mrs. Holomon was born Jan. 3, 1925, in International Falls, Minn., to Bernard and Ruth Karanofsky. She was born and raised at the homestead farm until World War II when she went to Seattle, Wash., to work at Boeing Aircraft as a machinist. She met her husband to be, James Lewis Waldron, in 1950. They married in 1951 in Seattle. Since Mr. Waldron was in the Navy, they relocated to Pensacola, Fla., where her two sons Bernard and Michael were born. From Pensacola, they moved to Bermuda for 2 1/2 years, then to Pearl Harbor Naval Air Station, Hawaii, then to San Francisco, Calif., and finally settled in San Diego, where Penny was a nurse's aid in a nursing home where she enjoyed working with the elderly and disabled. She met her second husband, Jake Holomon, and they lived in Spring Valley, Calif., until his death.
Mrs. Holomon then moved to Powers, Ore., for 15 years. She moved to Seward in 1995 to be with her son Bernard and wife and family. She then went back down to Powers. She came back to Wasilla on Sept. 29 of this year to be with her oldest son and family until her passing.
Her family wrote, "She was a non-denominational Christian, but her love and beliefs of her Lord and Savior was so great that she read her Bible daily and followed His words. She will be greatly missed for all of the good things that she has done in her life. She never had a bad word to say about anyone. She lived life to the fullest and had no regrets."
Her parents, Bernard and Ruth Karnofsky; brother, Barney Karnofsky; grandson, Jude Waldron and her husband, Jake Holomon, preceded Mrs. Holomon in death. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law, Bernard and Ippy Waldron of Wasilla and Michael Waldron of Powers, Ore.; granddaughter Jessica Waldron of Silverton, Ore.; brother Richard Karnofsky of Safford, Ariz.; and sisters Rube McCauley of Wicks, Ariz., Ivy Elrod of Antioch, Ill., Iris Mason of Napa, Calif., Effie Anderson of Little Fork, Minn., June McFaggan of White Bear Lake, Minn., and Marvis Schlemmer of Wisconsin.
